BAS alternatives: what to replace BAS Accounting and BAS ERP with

A review of real BAS alternatives for Ukrainian business after sanctions: selection criteria, approach comparison and common replacement mistakes.

After the developer of BAS was added to sanctions lists, "what do we replace it with" moved from theory to practice. Let's look at how to choose a replacement without trading one problem for another.

First — what exactly are you replacing

BAS Accounting and BAS ERP are products of different scale, and the replacement differs too. If you only used the accounting loop, the choice is wider: local accounting services may fit. But if BAS ERP covered warehouse, purchasing, manufacturing and management accounting, you need a full ERP — and the field narrows to international platforms.

The criteria that actually matter

  • Vendor origin and stability. The main lesson of the 1C/BAS story: the platform must belong to a vendor that won't vanish from the market or fall under sanctions.
  • Ukrainian localization. Tax reporting, VAT, currency accounting — without these the system stays "nice but unusable".
  • A partner ecosystem in Ukraine. Who will implement and support it? A platform with no local integrators is a risk.
  • Five-year cost of ownership. Count not the licence but the total: subscription, implementation, support, updates.

Why Business Central usually makes the shortlist

For a mid-market business that has grown from bookkeeping into full operations, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central covers the same perimeter as BAS ERP: finance, warehouse, purchasing, sales, manufacturing. Plus what BAS never had: a cloud with EU data centres, native Power BI, AI Copilot and deep integration with the Excel and Outlook your team already lives in.

A common mistake: looking for "the same BAS, just not Russian". A switch is a chance to rethink processes, not to copy old habits into a new shell. The most expensive projects are the ones where the new system is forced to impersonate the old one.

How to decide without risk

Start with an audit: the list of processes you actually use in BAS, data volume, custom tweaks. With that list, platform comparison turns from marketing promises into concrete yes/no answers. What the switch itself looks like is in our guide to migrating from BAS to Business Central, and the legal context is in the piece on the 1C ban in Ukraine.
